Construction Superintendent – Water and Wastewater

Job description

We have exciting opportunities for experienced Construction Superintendents with minimum 5 years of local experience in constructing water and wastewater pipes (sewers, watermain, process piping), valve chambers, maintenance chambers  and other related municipal infrastructure within a municipal right of way in Ontario.

In these positions, you'll be leading the construction of water and wastewater infrastructure projects, supporting the delivery of local government projects across the Greater Toronto Area, as well as working closely with our internal teams on large commercial/residential subdivision projects.

A Construction Superintendent is primarily responsible for the effective and efficient completion of municipal water and wastewater construction projects.  You are expected to keep relevant training certificates up to date at the time of application.  You will be entrusted with a team and a project for which you are completely responsible. You will ensure all team members involved in the construction project perform efficiently and stay within the timelines and project budget. You will also coordinate inspection of the work and ensures that it meets local and federal regulations.

Skills and Qualifications

As a Construction Superintendent, you already have the basic qualifications and skills required to manage a team and to ensure projects stay on track. Some examples of necessary Construction Superintendent skills and qualifications include:

Experience Requirements

The position of a Construction Superintendent is a supervisory position managing a team of Construction Workers, Labourers, and Field Coordinators. You are expected to have several years of experience (5 years minimum) in the construction industry. Those with previous management experience working with a construction team would have an advantage.

Most Construction Superintendents have been in the industry for many years, and have worked in related roles such as Construction Workers, Designers, Engineers, Planners or as other professionals within the industry. They have earned promotions, have managed additional responsibilities, and have shown leadership potential in their previous job roles. Prior experience in the construction industry is an essential requirement for this role.

Education and Training Requirements

A Construction Superintendent, you have a high school diploma or equivalent as a minimum but having an associate or a bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, or other relevant disciplines is advantageous. You have earned several years of on-the-job training, and certifications specific to the construction industry, such as Certified Construction Manager or Certified Professional Constructor titles..

Intermediate CAD Designer

We are currently searching for a dedicated Civil CAD Designer to support our water and wastewater and land development projects. An innovative thinker, the Civil CAD Designer will work with a creative, dynamic team of Engineers, Designers and Project Managers and will have a direct impact on the successful delivery of some of the key projects in the Greater Toronto Area. The successful candidate should be familiar and possess a keen interest in civil engineering practices as well as the linear infrastructure (watermains, sewers, forcemains).

Responsibilities

  •   Civil design and drafting for plan and profiles, site plans, servicing and grading
  •   Drafting of chambers, internal pipes, valves and utilities
  •   Strict adherence to company and client drafting standards
  •   Ensure accuracy, completeness and quality of technical information on project documentation produced in accordance with QA/QC procedures

  •   Coordination with other disciplines will be required on most projects.

Qualifications

  •   Thorough knowledge and work history with AutoCAD including Civil 3D.

Trade Worker – Water and Wastewater

Job description

We have exciting opportunities for experienced Trade Workers with minimum 5 years of local Trade Worker experience in construction of water and wastewater pipes (sewers, watermain, process piping), valve chambers, maintenance chambers  and other related municipal infrastructure within a municipal right of way in Ontario.

In these positions, you'll be assisting the construction of water and wastewater infrastructure projects, supporting the delivery of local government projects across the Greater Toronto Area, as well as working closely with our internal teams on large commercial/residential subdivision projects.

As a Trade Worker, you will assist skilled tradespersons and perform labouring activities at construction sites such as preparing and cleaning up construction sites, moving materials and equipment, and performing demolition and excavation activities.  You are expected to keep relevant training certificates up to date at the time of application.

Your Duties

As a Trade Worker, your duties  include:

  •   Loading and unloading construction materials, and moving them to work areas
  •   Installing and removing concrete forms, scaffolding, ramps, catwalks and barricades at construction sites
  •   Mixing, pouring and spreading materials such as concrete and asphalt
  •   Assisting heavy equipment operators to secure attachments to equipment
  •   Signalling heavy equipment operators to guide them in moving equipment

  •   Tending or feeding equipment used in construction, such as mixers, compressors and pumps

Manager of Construction - Water and Wastewater

We are looking for an experienced Manager of Construction to lead our construction site superintendents delivering municipal water & wastewater infrastructure (pumping stations, watermains, sewers, forcemains, storage facilities, etc.) and industrial/commercial development projects.  Once hired, you will be working from our Newmarket Office located at 18075 Leslie Street-Unit 210, Newmarket.

Under this role, you will be responsible for overseeing multiple water and wastewater projects simultaneously and serving as the worksite representative for dealings with subcontractors, suppliers, customers, and government inspectors. The construction manager will ensure compliance with all national and local procedures, regulations, and codes, and will provide progress updates to appropriate management channels on a regular basis. With every project, the construction manager will be counted on to drive the innovation we’re known for.. 

Objectives of this role

  •   Manage worksites for new-construction as well as retrofit municipal water & wastewater infrastructure projects, coordinating activities and ensuring that all work is in sync with project goals and objectives
  •   Provide direction to general contractors, subcontractors, and vendors when doing groundwork to ensure that quality standards are being met
  •   Liaise with engineers, architects, and others working on a project
  •   Prepare and manage estimates, budgets, timetables, and resources
  •   Identify, mitigate, and track recurring construction issues
  •   Adhere to legal regulations, building and safety codes, and other requirements

Responsibilities

  •   Collaborate with architects, engineers, and other specialists; hire superintendent, full-time and part-time subcontractors and laborers and coordinate their schedules
  •   Visit sites regularly during construction — including bid walks, preconstruction walks, in-progress visits, punch walks, and closeouts — and attend status and coordination meetings
  •   Conduct and document quality assurance and safety inspections throughout the construction process, ensuring that the work environment is acceptable and that tools and equipment are in good working condition
  •   Maintain and update SOW and preconstruction documents, and meet contract obligations by developing relationships with reliable contractors and vendors
  •   Respond efficiently and effectively to work delays, emergencies, and other project disruptions

Required skills and qualifications

  •   Five or more years of experience in managing new-construction and retrofit projects specifically in water and wastewater sector (pumping stations, watermains, sewers, forcemains, treatment plants, storage facilities, etc) 
  •   Knowledge of construction methods and technologies and an ability to interpret technical drawings and contracts
  •   Knowledge of building-code requirements and scheduling methods

Heavy Equipment Operator - Water and Wastewater

Job description

We have exciting opportunities for experienced heavy equipment operators with minimum 5 years of local experience in using heavy equipment such as excavators and backhoes for the  installation of  water and wastewater pipes (sewers, watermain, process piping), valve chambers, maintenance chambers  and other related municipal infrastructure within a municipal right of way in Ontario.

In these positions, you'll be constructing water and wastewater infrastructure projects, supporting the delivery of local government projects across the Greater Toronto Area, as well as working closely with our internal teams on large commercial/residential subdivision projects. You will have a key focus on successful project delivery and support the mentoring and coaching of junior staff in the team.

What will you bring?

  •   A minimum of 5 years of experience in operating heavy equipment for the installation water and wastewater pipes (sewers, watermain, process piping), valve chambers, maintenance chambers  and other related municipal infrastructure in public right of way in Ontario (experience in pipe installation would be advantageous)
  •   Experience in tunnelling construction projects will be advantageous
  •   Up to date on relevant health and safety training and certification
  •   Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  •   A team player with a positive attitude.

Pipeline Installer - Water and Wastewater

Construction Manager - Buildings and Facilities

Job description

We are looking for an experienced Construction/Project Manager to support our current buildings and land development projects and help build the Buildings & Facilities Business Line.  Once hired, you will be working from our Newmarket Office located at 18075 Leslie Street, Newmarket.

Under this role, you'll be leading the contract document preparations required to tender Buildings and Facility projects across the Greater Toronto Area as well as supporting the delivery of municipal/regional projects. You will have a key focus on successful project delivery and support the mentoring and coaching of junior staff in the team.

What will you bring?

  •   A minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in successful delivery of buildings and facility projects across the Greater Toronto Area.  Candidates with more years of experience will be considered for a department head position.
  •   Contract document preparation and tender management experience in projects larger than $5Million is must.
  •   Business development experience combined with engineering and project management experience will be an added advantage
  •   Civil, structural, or mechanical engineering experience in the relevant area will be added advantageous
  •   Experience in using procurement platforms will be added advantage
  •   Project management experience, with a drive to go above and beyond our clients' expectations
  •   Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  •   A team player with a positive attitude.
